The most important characteristic of this visit was that it was informal and thus it supported the idea that a peace process is not complete unless it involves ordinary people.

A delegation from the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain joined a Hanukkah menorah lighting ceremony at the Western Wall in Jerusalem on Monday night, in what was hailed by the holy site’s chief rabbi as a “Hanukkah miracle.”
Dr. Majid al-Sarah from the University of Dubai said: “To visit Israel for the first time as part of a delegation is a historic moment. Israel is a prime example of tolerance in the region. This is a new era of peace and stability between peoples.”

A delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain participated in a Hanukkah candle-lighting ceremony at the Western Wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem last night, reported the Times of Israel.
The delegation that included bloggers, academics and businesspeople is part of the Sharaka Project, an Israeli, Bahraini and Emirati initiative to cultivate ties among young people in Israel and Arab states. Sharaka is an Arabic word for “cooperation.”
